This mask is based on the old poem of "Red sky at night; sailor's delight. Red sky in the morning; sailor take warning." which heralds good or bad weather. The wearer of this mask can look forward to a lovely day since the sun setting over the sea is casting a red hue over the evening clouds. The face of the mask corresponds to the ocean and is painted in deepening shades of blue/purple/green. The photo really does not do it justice; the main attraction of this mask is the vibrancy of the colors which are all painted with metallic acrylic paints, and accented in gold leaf and glitter. In person it can quite take your breath away. The stick continues the colors of the sea down to the dark depths, ending in irridescent black pearl beads. It is shown below on a stick and really works best that way because the mouth is closed, but can also be ordered with ribbon ties or a satin ribbon covered elastic strap.
