The masks pictured here are all decorated in the colors of Mardi Gras: gold, purple and green.
The reason these are the colors of the Mardi Gras celebration is because they are listed as the colors of Hell in Dante's Inferno and the Mardi Gras celebration is basically a festival of sin and vice prior to giving up these things for Lent. That is why the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday is the climax of Mardi Gras, and is in fact called Fat Tuesday; it is the last day to indulge before a season of repentence and sacrifice.
