The Crimson Veil
(in artist's own collection)
This piece was the first of
my 3-dimensional creations where I sculpt the images from paper mache onto
canvas. It measures 18 inches by 36 inches and is painted with oil paints.
The face is leafed with real gold. I consider it to be my best work
to date, and it is also my personal favorite. Some have found it to be
frightening, but it has always represented Beauty to me; the beauty of
reality over illusion. It is based on a poem of mine which is written on
the back of the canvas.
The poem is below.
The Crimson Veil
It is almost like awakening
To hear a distant wail
Til finally truth wins over
hope
And rips the Crimson Veil
The scene may shift and change
And false joy may confuse
you
But only happy times are
sad
And only pain is true.
